I have been trying to port some p ython code on github for iris recognition to OpenCV for the past few days. I have been succesfully porting the code but kind of got stuck now. If I look at the results of his test image he gets a pretty decent result.
However, I get the following result [used the same input image! Getting the black pupil area was no problem and works flawlessly. I am guessing it goes wrong at detecting the edges uses the HoughTransform. I like the idea of looping over the accumulator value until a single circle remains, but it does not seem to be the same result. First binarize the image so that findContours can work correctly. Now find the contours and then find the pupil in the contours.
Then mask the pupil from the image and store it's coordinates. OpenCV returns the circles as a list of lists of circles. This method should use the background subtraction technique to isolate the iris from the original image. Find the iris using the radius of the pupil as input. This creates a black image and draws an iris-sized white circle in it.
Mask the iris and crop everything outside of its radius. This is the main method that will be called to detect the iris.I'm trying to target both the iris and pupil border using opencv's Canny Edge, but all of the parameters I've used do not meet the criteria of well delimiting the two edges.
